  1. This application will convert text files of arbitrarily large size, providing you have the 
  2. RAM. You need to have 3 times the RAM allocated to the program as the file is large. For example, a 128K file needs 384K (plus a few K) to run. If you get an out of memory error, just give the program a bigger partition using the Get Info command in the Finder.

  4. It does the following replacements:
  5. ™ => (tm)
  6. © => (c)
  7. ® => (r)
  8. “ => "
  9. ” => "
  10. ‘ => '
  11. ’ => '
  12. – => -
  13. — => --
  14. … => ...
  15. TAB => 4 spaces 
  16. Other Extended ASCII => Deleted

  18. No other characters are affected.

  20. To use, simply open the source file form the file selector. The processing will be done 
  21. in memory, then you will be prompted for an output file name. The default is to use the same name plus the extension ' - Stripped'. The original file is not affected by the process. The Output file will have the same creator as the source file and will be of type 'TEXT'.

  23. WARNING: If you give the output file the same name as an existing file, it will overwrite the existing file without warning you!!!
